10.

But it’s just too tempting.

. Though Chelsea lacked the rhythm that will come as the season progresses, Jose Mourinho’s side still showed plenty of power and attacking intent against Swansea – particularly whenever Willian or Eden Hazard were on the ball.

Arsenal had a good domestic season in 2014-15, finishing third in the league and winning a second consecutive FA Cup. After all, Slaven Bilic’s side had already played three rounds of Europa League football.

Neither was the case.

Or of an early title claim when Chelsea coming visiting on Sunday.

About 24 hours later, those opinions may have been revised with the 33-year-old’s calamitous league debut for his new club.

Right back Matteo Darmian and defensive midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin both made promising debuts, although it’s open to question whether Wayne Rooney is best used as a target man, rather than as a marauding No. But whether taking on the likes of Birkirkara from the Maltese Premier League and Astra Giurgiu of Romania counts as preparation for facing one of the best sides in Europe is a moot point.

Add the 49 million pounds ($76 million) paid to Liverpool for Raheem Sterling and the goalscoring talent of Sergio Aguero, and it’s not difficult to see the potential for a third league trophy in five seasons.

It may not have been a slick performance, and there was more sideways passing than is usually welcomed by the Old Trafford faithful, but United looked a very sharp unit at times.

More important is the fact that Sunday’s defeat already puts Arsenal under an unwelcome degree of pressure ahead of this weekend’s game against Crystal Palace.

And Aston Villa probably won’t either, for that matter.

LONDON (AP) It is, of course, much too early to try to read something into the first round of matches in a m88 Premier League season that has another 37 games and more than eight months to run.

For a man who makes very few mistakes in a season, two blunders after less than an hour is certainly a worrying start, and was enough to consign Arsene Wenger’s side to an embarrassing 2-0 home defeat to West Ham.

It’s a far cry from the relative optimism that Louis van Gaal’s new-look United should be taking to Aston Villa in the first of the season’s Friday night fixtures.

While trying to explain what he acknowledged were two very cheap goals, Wenger pointed to West Ham being further advanced in its preparation for the season. So Sunday turned into precisely the kind of nightmare that Arsenal had been determined to avoid. The major disappointment came from a poor start – with just two wins from the opening eight league games – that effectively dashed any realistic hopes of winning the title.

New signing Asmir Begovic, whose first touch was to pick the ball out of the Chelsea net after Gomis had converted the resulting penalty, should make his full debut for the champions at Etihad Stadium.

Signing another striker, and resolving the future of goalkeeper and Real Madrid target David De Gea, would certainly do United no harm in the days ahead.

Looked at dispassionately, losing the first of 38 games means nothing.

Especially as some of the surprises in an entertaining start will clearly have an impact on the coming weekend’s action – at least for Chelsea and Arsenal.

Yet Mertesacker went so far as to describe Sunday’s upset as ”a massive loss”, adding that ”to start with a game like that is not good, but to bounce back is even more important now.”

When players like Yaya Toure, who scored twice at the Hawthorns, and David Silva are on the kind of form they showed Monday night, the 2012 and 2014 champions are an astonishingly good side.

With four new signings in the starting lineup and a fifth – Bastian Schweinsteiger – coming on in the second half, United should have looked pretty disjointed in the middle and vulnerable at the back against Tottenham.

Given Courtois’ automatic suspension, Chelsea fans will have left Stamford Bridge on Saturday with even longer faces and even bigger regrets after Petr Cech was allowed to move to Arsenal.

With a nervous Manchester United needing an own goal by Kyle Walker to beat Tottenham, Manchester City was by far the most convincing of English football’s Big Four with its 3-0 win at West Bromwich Albion.

The Blues now face one of their toughest games of the season – at Manchester City – without goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, following the Belgian’s rash decision to clatter into Bafetimbi Gomis during its 2-2 home draw with Swansea.

Wenger was factually correct. And the extent to which it is already playing mind games can be gauged from the comments made afterward by defender Per Mertesacker.

And it promises to be a tight game www.m88u.com READ MORE

The current manager prefers systems and coaching to the annual transfer tombola. A decent full-back here. And beyond this the shadow signings, the scratchcard players, a medium-term gamble-by-numbers with all the usual human wastage.

It must be said the failure of the Sons Of Bale isn’t quite as clearcut as is often suggested. The most interesting thing about Spurs last season wasn’t the failure of the Magnificently Mismatched Seven, but the evidence of real internal health, with five former youth players in the first team. With this in mind, perhaps in time the passing of Vlad might even be viewed with a little fuzzy nostalgia, not so much burying the dead as waving goodbye to the years of living just a little bit dangerously.

There was a collective shrug this week at the news that Spurs defender Vlad Chiriches is on the verge of a move to Fiorentina. This is hardly unique to Tottenham. Beyond that there have been two expensive failures in Iberian goal-disaster Soldado and the meandering semi-brilliance of Érik Lamela.

Others have stepped up.

It has been fascinating watching Levy balance the books in the middle of all this. Two hundred players have come and gone in the last 10 years, one Bale, a Carrick, a Modric for every handful of Bostocks and Taarabts. By the end of the summer we could have reached a tipping point in the dissolution of the Magnificent Seven, that odd-job of players signed in a hurry in the summer of 2013 from the proceeds of Gareth Bale’s sale to m88 Real Madrid.

Related: PSG sign Benjamin Stambouli from Tottenham on five-year contract

From the outside this is a huge disappointment. The B-list, there to thicken the squad. As the transfer window gasps and sweats its way through the usual high-summer Sahara of inanity there is a newfound starchiness about Spurs’ recruitment, a rolling back from all the fun and frolic towards the youth-oriented austerity promised by Daniel Levy in the spring. Which was, come to think of it, not that dissimilar to what happened when you were back in England occasionally playing centre-back for Tottenham Hotspur.

The argument against all this acquisitiveness is that Spurs have often gone too far into the Levy-ball schtick, building a squad out of loose change and kindling. West Ham are a little Spurs-curious. At the top end there are three types of transfers now. Liverpool have been buying Spurs players for a while now. That summer Spurs also sold four other first-team players, who between them pretty much covered the incoming Capoue, Paulinho, Chiriches and Nacer Chadli. In Levy’s 14 years as chairman Spurs have been called “a selling club”, but this is to underestimate the sheer churn of players though what has been more a kind of clearing house, a talent exchange. Buy Younès Kaboul! Sell Younès Kaboul! Even last summer there was the beautifully incomprehensible three-man Swansea boondoggle involving Ben Davis, Michel Vorm and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Farewell, then, Vlad. It’s been all too brief. Lamela, for example, who can rabona the ball into the top corner from 20 yards and then spend half an hour wandering about looking at his own feet, as though entranced by their own occasional splendour, or Rafael van der Vaart, all frictionless, gliding talent, no muscle tone.

If Chiriches does go it will be a significant departure for other reasons. During his two years in the Premier League Chiriches has looked a little startled, a little haunted, a man just about prepared to go along with the basic concept of playing football without ever being quite convinced it isn’t an elaborate practical joke, and destined to spend his Thursday nights stumbling and stuttering in super slow motion on ITV4 while Peter Reid looks sad in a swivel chair.. The training ground is a pastoral powerhouse. It has, let’s face it, been a brilliant ride. Spurs fans might object that the best moments have come when they have held on to their best players, however briefly, but this has still been a period of rare, sustained success gathered in on the hoof, with six straight seasons in the top six. Étienne Capoue and Paulinho have already left White Hart Lane. A low-risk France Under-21s international there. At the same time, for all the fiddling about with the cash flow, the returns and impulse buys, Spurs have become richer and more stable simply by virtue of being a Premier League team at the right time in the right city, with a new ground in the offing and the club’s value steadily creeping up.

Maybe because Levy himself is a long-time Tottenham fan these passing hands have still tended to be identifiably “Spurs players”, what we might call the Genuine Stambouli: twinkly things, all lovely fluffy edges, capable of divine little moments of skill even while playing just four matches all season and being sold on for a £2m profit a year later.

It is in this last category that Spurs have tended to go to excess, building a squad out of casino chips and stock market punts. Roberto Soldado is “available”. The A-list, a minority signed to improve the first team. They really do seem to mean it this time.

One thing is certain. Spurs, it seems, are no longer signing Spurs players.

And really it probably is time to move on from all that chanciness and churn. Spurs, though, not so much. And yet perhaps the best part is that it basically worked. The Bale money may have been spent badly but it was at least spent with the same grand plan in mind, the fascination with a certain type: teens-to-mid-20s, prodigiously, if unevenly talented, but still with half a fingernail lodged in the lift doors up towards being genuinely top class. For the Bale money Christian Eriksen has been a lovely, gossamer, wispy little No10, both oddly peripheral and oddly incisive at the same READ MORE

Real had short bursts of brilliance and long spells of undistinguished play for a staccato rhythm that simply felt like a car that couldn’t start up.. It is too early to judge our progress, the season is too young.”

But despite this attacking and midfield fragility it is at defense that the team is hurting most. The bottom line is that this team will continue winning with their formula as long as opponents fail to meet Atleti’s level of intensity and counter their strategic roughness, and as long as the officials maintain their policy of largesse toward Simeone’s players.

Earlier in the day the other Spanish Football contender, Barcelona, beat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 with two wonderful late goals from Neymar abetted by Lionel Messi’s superb form. Cristiano Ronaldo, as was clear from the myriad times he chose not to sprint into space or with the ball on a counter, is not yet at full strength and it speaks volumes for the team when he is still their most effective offensive weapon.

As we noted previously what we are witnessing three fun88 games into the season is this: a Barcelona that is hitting on most cylinders without utilizing all of their options, a Real that is misfiring while not knowing which options to use, and a one-note Atletico that nevertheless succeeds.

Are these the season's contenders? Carlo Ancelotti

At the post-loss conference Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti, said: “We need to analyse things and try to fix them fast, but there’s nothing wrong with the system, it’s the lack of intensity. It hasn’t been a good start to the season, but it’s just the start. Barcelona coach, Luis Enrique, pleased with his win still felt “Barcelona have a lot to improve. The new coach has his team humming and his top stars cruising, and Luis Suarez has yet to play for him in La Liga. The Merengues had the edge in possession and defensive mistakes, the Colchoneros played their typical foul-filled match with a dollop of opportunism to boot. He seems to have made all the right moves from whom to bring up from the B team to fill in, to how to deploy a crestfallen Messi who has resurged, to how to pair up an almost recuperated Neymar, to how to keep a nearly Qatar-bound Xavi Hernandez and a much-in-demand Andres Iniesta. All eight players were in the box when the crucial cross came through to Ardan Turan, the second man with a shot at the goal, for the score.

It is early in the season to make any comprehensive long-range predictions off of these three performances, particularly with a good number of teams still to play later today, but some thumbnail sketches are beginning to emerge that seem to presage what may lay in store for at least the first third of the 2014-15 season.

For the second time in three league rounds, the top three contenders played back-to-back games, giving us an opportunity to see how they are rounding out their settling-in periods. No other teams seem ready to contend. In the first Atletico goal scored yesterday it was a blown coverage on a corner that allowed a very close range header to open the score.

At the other end of the spectrum in all but talent-laden rosters, Luis Enrique is enjoying a first-time first-big-team-coach beginner’s honeymoon. He has all the needed pieces to build the most formidable team in the world, but unless he finds the right fit soon he will go down the same path as previous galactico minders who simply could not match talent with performance.

James Rodriguez has not found his comfort zone, Toni Kroos and Luca Modric seem about two paces away from finding a rhythm in what might someday become a great midfield partnership. Gareth Bale seems unable to string together strong back-to-back national team and club team performances as he disappeared for long stretches against Atleti.

Watching from a box seat at the Bernabeu, while serving his suspension for striking a referee, Atletico Madrid coach, Diego Simeone, seemed happy to have but a game to go before the current penalty is fully paid. He continues to be the focal forward reference while consistently missing golden opportunities. Iker Casillas has been powerless to defend against scores that have left him one-on-one with opponents or the recipient of headers from five yards out. Ominously, Enrique also seems to know that, results aside, Barca is not yet hitting on all cylinders. He might yet tinker with the recipe and find a sweeter fit.

Yesterday, visiting Atletico Madrid defeated Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu 2-1. His team, faithfully playing from his so far successful libretto, seems ready to attempt a repeat of last year.

Carlo Ancelotti may have had a golden first year, but with La Decima in the rear view it will be the two remaining years on his contract that will most likely make or break his reputation. That said, one still has the impression that one tweak–a fully-fit Ronaldo pairing up with a settled James while Kroos and Modric jell, an injury to a key Atletico player, or the fusing of the Suarez-Neymar-Messi juggernaut–could change the balance of power within the trio, and thus within Europe.

Replays will similarly show that in the second goal no fewer than three Atleti attackers were better positioned to score than the opposing five Real defenders were positioned to contest. We’ll sort things out.”

At day’s end Barcelona were atop the table with nine points, Atletico were second with seven, and Real were at 12th with but one win and two losses in three matches.

Karim Benzema, the error prone enigma that was a Jose Mourinho pet and now a Zinadine Zidane favorite, keeps deflating the Madrid side more often than he helps them

He’s always improving and because of that, he is the best.”

In 2009, Cristiano made international headlines when United agreed to sell him to Real Madrid for a stunning $131 million transfer fee, making him the most expensive player in European football history.

Ronaldo, who has been playing soccer since age three, is a study in extreme physical fitness. “His training emphasizes explosion, endurance, speed, strength and functional movement alongside his many hours of footwork and team practices,” said Clegg.

“Physically, Cristiano is the perfect specimen,” Manchester United’s m88 former conditioning coach Mike Clegg, told the BBC. Ronaldo, who won the 2014 Ballon d’Or earlier this year, has natural athleticism, but works hard to maintain his elite level of play.

Ronaldo rarely eats junk food and isn’t a big drinker. “Look at his numbers three years ago and you think, ‘It’s impossible he can do better,’ and then you look at him this year and he’s done better again.

Despite his success, Cristiano, who earns $105 million a year (not including endorsements) still has a burning ambition to constantly improve his game and has no intention of resting on his laurels. Cristiano has previously said his favorite meal is bacalhau à braz (cod with scrambled eggs and fried potatoes), a traditional Portuguese dish.

Cristiano typically works out five days a week, doing cardio circuits and exercising his legs, arms, core. “My ambition is huge.”

Cristiano has his own underwear line called CR7. During the soccer season, his workout routine includes lots of running and weight training as well as practice matches with Real Madrid.

‘My Ambition Is Huge’

Cristiano also follows a healthy diet of fish, meat, chicken, vegetables and fruit during the season. “Cristiano Ronaldo eats all sort of dishes as a responsible athlete, but the one he likes the most is fish, such as gilt-head bream, swordfish and sea bass,” said Clegg.

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest footballers who ever stepped on the pitch, thanks to his disciplined diet and workout regimen. Ronaldo’s incredible career and work ethic were profiled in the book Ronaldo: The Obsession for Perfection.

His relentless drive is what separates Ronaldo from the pack. At 6-foot-1 and 176 pounds, the Portuguese international forward is one of the leanest, fastest and fittest athletes to grace the world stage.

High-Protein Diet Featuring Lots of Fish

During his six years at Manchester United, Ronaldo won three Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, an FA Cup and the FIFA World Club Cup, as well as the FIFA Player of the Year title.

When he eats out in restaurants with pals, Ronaldo has said his favorite dish is a medium-rare steak, side salad and a few french fries. “Ronaldo improves every day,” said Clegg. They are in perfect balance.”. “From his height to his natural body type, muscular structure, how much fat he’s got in his system, his endurance capacity, flexibility, power and strength. “I want to get better and better,” he said

Born in Marseilles, France, Zinedine Zidane got recruited at the age of 16 by Cannes because of his extraordinary talent. You need many qualities to play soccer, like presence of mind, speed, strength and stamina, and lastly scoring goals.

You need only one thing and that is the love for the game, and all the above mentioned qualities will follow. He stepped into the international team at 16, but later played in the World Cup. He started playing international matches at the age of 16 and became the star of the 1958 World Cup. He started playing at the age of 15 and played for Santos for quite some time. When he started playing, before he was 20, he made his team proud by helping them bag the second place in their 1998 first division title. If it doesn’t move, kick it until it does. Zinedine then played for the French national squad and won the biggest tournaments in soccer: the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 European Championship.

Fighting a quarter crack, he may not have been at his physical best here, but his heart was never in doubt.

1997 Preakness Stakes – Silver Charm et al.

Silver Charm, Captain Bodgit, Free House, and Touch Gold, all amazing horses in their own right, battle it out in one of the best Triple Crown Races ever. This is a selection of my choices for the greatest races since 1973, pulled from the great treasure trove of horse racing videos on Youtube. A desperate finish ensues.

1973 Belmont Stakes – Secretariat Wins Triple Crown

How could I start with anything else? I still get chills from watching this race, in which the great Secretariat not only sealed the Triple Crown, but shattered the record for 12 furlongs on the dirt.  Keep an eye on Touch Gold, who stumbled at the break, but may have run the best race of all.

1981 Arlington Million – John Henry

The great John Henry made the inaugural running of the Arlington Million a memorable one. You have to pity The Bart, who looked a winner all the way round only to get out-bobbed at the wire. Cigar may have been just a trifle past his sell-by date after a long campaign that year, but he still gave Skip Away all he could handle. The embedded video below is just the finish of the race; the full race can be seen at this link.

1991 Breeders Cup Juvenile – Arazi

The European superhorse Arazi stunned the world with his electrifying move to the front, passing horses like they were standing still. Winning Colors

The undefeated Personal Ensign in her last career race runs up against the former Derby winning filly, a revivified Winning Colors. Easy Goer

Who was better, Easy Goer or Sunday Silence? This epic race may have finally answered the question, with former champion Blushing John tossed into the mix for good measure.

1996 Jockey Club Gold Cup – Skip Away vs. Easy Goer

It’s hard to imagine a more dramatic race than this. Feel free to add your choices for the best races in the comments section below.

1987 Breeders Cup Classic – Ferdinand vs. Note how Alydar fails to switch leads in the stretch, a flaw which may have kept him from besting his rival.

1996 Dubai World Cup Classic – Cigar

The mighty Cigar was going for his fourteenth straight win in the first Dubai World Cup. AlyshebaThe two Derby winners hook up in a classic of Classics. Chic Anderson’s superb race call complements the greatest race ever.

1989 Breeders Cup Classic – Sunday Silence vs. Preakness winner Louis Quatorze and Belmont winner Editor’s Note completed the field.

1989 Preakness – Sunday Silence vs. Sadly, he never lived up the the hype thereafter, but this amazing race was the real deal.

1978 Belmont Stakes – Affirmed vs. East coast stalwart Easy Goer was out to avenge his Derby loss to California-based Sunday Silence. From then on, I was hooked on the sport of kings. Tom Dirkin’s “Tiznow wins it for America”, may seem a bit over the top in retrospect, but at the time it had a real resonance. Alydar

In the culmination of their great Triple Crown battle, the two greats battle neck and neck around the track, with the game and gutsy Affirmed prevailing by a head. Even though I know who wins, I still found myself leaning in my chair as the two crossed the line together.

1988 Breeders Cup Distaff – Personal Ensign vs. Cigar

Two of the greats of the 90′s hook up in the Jockey Club at Belmont. 2001 Breeders Cup Classic – Tiznow vs. Did Pat Day move prematurly and comprimise Easy Goer’s chances? Judge for yourself.. Sakhee

Taking place just a month after the tragedy of 9/11, this Classic matched defending champion Tiznow against the Arc de Triomphe winner, Dubai-owned Sakhee. But of course John Henry, one of the smartest horses as well as one of the best, did have a habit of doing that.

What are the greatest horse races of all time? I can’t claim to have seen them all, since my horse racing consciousness only starts with Secretariat’s amazing Belmont Stakes win in 1973, which I watched with awe at home with my family crowded around the TV set READ MORE

Louisville had always had a love affair with horseracing. The dirt oval main track is a mile while the turf track is 7/8 of a mile. Since the spires were built, several renovations have been made to the track itself. The renovation was somewhat of a controversy since the new grandstand suites block full view of the twin spires, although they are still the highest points of the facility.

Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com

When you talk with people about Churchill Downs, one thing comes to mind – the twin spires. Churchill Downs would do just that. He has worked for some of the top online sportsbooks and now runs internet marketing for BetAmerica – the top online US horse racing betting website.

The twin spires are the most recognizable feature of Churchill Downs. A new tradition would also be implemented that year – the adorning of the Kentucky Derby winner in a garland of roses. They have been standing since 1895 and were designed by architect Joseph Dominic Baldez.

For quite some time, Churchill had a reputation as a gambling hall. Broek was an accomplished trainer, regularly attending the English Derby at Epsom Downs in London. What most people don’t know is the history behind the track and how the twin spires came to be.

The track is named after John and Henry Churchill. Today, the Churchill Downs complex covers over 147 acres, nearly double its original size. Even people who don’t watch horseracing know about Churchill Downs and its twin spires due to the popularity of races such as the Kentucky Derby and the Kentucky Oaks. When these two tracks closed, there was a void in Louisville that needed filling. He was the man that introduced Clark to the world of horse racing.

Another unique addition to Churchill Downs was the adding of a mural that depicted the 96 jockeys that had won the Kentucky Derby from 1875 to 2004. Some changes needed to be made and in 1893 the track was sold to a syndicate that was led by William Applegate. He was also the president of the Louisville Jockey Club and Driving Park Association. After all, it was home to Oakland racecourse as well as Woodlawn. The renovation replaced the clubhouse and added 79 luxury suites and the twin spires were refurbished. Clark was actually grandson of famous explorer William Clark. New changes were implemented including shortening the track and the commissioning of the twin spire grandstand in 1895 READ MORE

Unlike team sports such as football, non-team sports also have multiple events over the course of a year, so “Betting to Win” obviously happens much more frequently than a once a year NFL futures bet on the Super Bowl winner does.

It is very important to note that not all the competitors in an event may be listed, so another betting option is on the “field” which includes all other competitors not listed. The two main ways of wagering on non-team sports are “Betting to Win” an event and “Matchup Betting” which pits an individual against another individual or a group of individuals.

An example with team sports would be NFL futures, where you often can get much higher odds on a team by betting before the season starts. These are not fixed and are adjusted by sportsbooks several times leading up to the event and are sometimes released months before an event.

Betting to Win

For non-team sports like golf, boxing, tennis and NASCAR, “Matchup Betting” offers an alternative to simply betting on the event’s winner. If her opponent pulls off the upset, $100 bet on the underdog would profit $360 (plus the return of the $100 risked). For example, you can bet on:

Before every major event in non-team sports like golf, tennis and auto racing, futures are set by oddsmakers. . Open tennis tournament, a reasonable money line would require Serena bettors to risk $400 to win $100 while a $100 bet on her opponent would win $360. Other examples of props for non-team sports include what racing team will finish highest in a particular NASCAR race (Chevy, Ford or Dodge) or how many rounds will the fight between Mike Tyson and Kevin McBride last (Over/Under 8.5 rounds). The odds on a “field” bet are typically comparable to a bet on the favorite in order to protect sportsbooks from taking a big hit if a major upset occurs. A NFL future bet on a team to win the Super Bowl might be 20/1 in the preseason; but by midseason, their odds might decrease to 10/1 if they turn out to be legitimate championship contenders. “Matchup Betting” generally involves an individual going up against another individual in a head-to-head event, such as a tennis match, and the odds are determined using the money line. Props, also known as exotic wagers, are also extremely popular on high-profile team sporting events like the Super Bowl in Las Vegas .

“Betting to Win” an outcome event like The Masters is the most common way to wager on individuals competing for a particular non-team title. For more information on how this works, be sure to check out How to Read the Money Line.

For example, if Serena Williams faced an overmatched opponent in the U.S. In exchange for a lesser payout, field bettors gain the advantages of having more than one entrant that can win for them. The same holds true for major team sports like NFL and college football, NBA and college basketball and MLB baseball.

The main advantage of futures is that you can get appealing odds by betting far in advance of when the event takes place. These artificial matchups are also fake in the sense that bookmakers are the ones creating them – solely for betting purposes – and different books will often offer different matchups. So be aware of all your wagering options and don’t miss out on the excitement non-team sports have to offer with prop betting!

Contributed by:

What will be the exact margin of victory

Matchup Betting

Group matchups are another way “matchup betting” is used which is particularly popular in golf and auto racing events like NASCAR, where you can select whether a leading competitor or a few other lesser competitors will finisher higher amongst the group, with the odds again based on money lines. However, many sportsbooks also offer proposition bets (or props short) for gambling on non-team sports like golf, tennis, boxing and auto racing – including NASCAR – due to their growing popularity.

As you can see, there’s much more to betting than simply totals and sides, especially when it comes to gambling on non-team sports. Since golf and NASCAR both have pre-qualifying, not everybody makes the cut to the final day of competition, and these group matchups require all individuals to qualify in order to be eligible for action. For example, betting on the 2006 Masters golf tournament now might get you much better value on Tiger Woods, who may be 10/1 at this moment but dip to 6/1 closer to the event if he is on a roll.

What player will score the game’s first touchdown

What team will win the coin toss

Every $400 bet on Serena nets a $100 profit if she wins (plus the return of the $400 risked). Betting sides and totals on major sports like baseball, basketball and football are the most common wagers available everywhere.

Here’s how the money line would be listed: Serena Williams -400 / #102 Ranked Opponent +360. The Imperial Palace Casino’s sportsbook is well-known for the enormous number of prop bets offered. An artificial head-to-head matchup involves competitors in an event like a golf tournament or auto race who are indirectly competing against each other since in reality they are competing against everybody in the field, not just one other competitor.

Proposition bets for non-team sports are not limited to “Betting to Win” an event and “Matchup Betting” but those are the primary ways to wager on them.

Furthermore, a tennis match would be considered a tournament-style head-to-head matchup since the competitors involved directly play against each other in the event READ MORE

Reforms and patronization was brought to horse riding by King

Charles II.

From first millennium B.C., the chariot races were known and

spread. In the United States, first race course was built in North

American Long Island. This sport is famous around the world including Canada, South

Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico.

In 20th century, after the reformers demanded to

outlaw betting and bookmaking in different states, Florida and California

became an industry with horse races scheduled to year length activity.

As the interest of people in horses grew in 19th

century, a joint club called, ‘The Jockey Club’ evolved, which was an American

organization resembling The British Jockey Club. These horses were swift with racial superiority. This

breed was unknown to the Europeans till now. Its headquarters

is in New York. These races were normally up to the distance

of 4 miles. This entity was

further upgraded to The Bureau of Regularity American Thoroughbreds.

. So, it remained less popular till the fall

of Rome in 5th century A.D.

In 1942, with the objective of encouraging ethical horse

racing, Thoroughbred Racing Association of the U.S was formed. Descendants of Darley Arabian were brought to Virginia. This sport started flourishing in ancient Greek; however, in roman

times, it was not that emphasized. Pennsylvania

Virginia and Maryland became the house of horse racing in U.S.

In the 6th century, Middle East Arab Horses were

introduced by Muslims. An Arab horse was imported to

England by king Henry 1, which was mated to get Anglo Arab breeds of horses.

Racecourse of Roman times was constructed at London in 1174,

where saddle racing became famous. This club served as a regulatory

authority, which ensured breeding maintenance and racing READ MORE

The offshore books with whom I work are top grade but it is in the offshore environment that problems occasionally occur. I also like SportingBet (www.SBSportsbook.com) who take US customers and cater for global sports.

“How to Choose the Right Sportsbook!”

by: Daniel B. Therefore you should think of the sportsbook you are considering as a bank – a place that you intend to keep funds long term.

If you have already have an account with a sportsbook watch out for lapses in customer service and slowness of payment – these can be signs that the company could be in trouble.

Happy betting!

Read press articles as opposed to reviews – reviews are usually written by the sportsbook’s marketing team.

Test run the software by joining and playing for free – most sportsbooks offer this facility.

Find out if your funds are insured or separated in ESCROW accounts so that if the sportsbook company goes under – your funds are still safe.

Find out if the sportsbook is independently audited.

How long has the operation been online – three to four years is usually a good marker as a minimum.

Test out the customer services to see if they meet your standards or the standards they promise you.

If you know about betting already, then check some of their odds and lines – are they in keeping with what you would expect? Some less scrupulous sportsbooks offer very attractive prices to lure unsuspecting bettors. But ask yourself ; “how easy is it to get access to my money and how much does it cost?”

So what do you look for:

Not all the above are critical – but help towards finding a secure book. Options should be available that are ‘free’ or where the sportsbook absorbs the charges. It is, therefore, critical that those US customers put in the research before signing up.

. Sometimes this means added solidity.

What are the deposit and withdrawal options and the associated charges. These vary quite a bit from book to book.

Find out if the sportsbook is part of a larger group of companies. I have had at least three online sportsbooks go broke on me – luckily my losses were kept to a few thousand dollars – that may sound a lot but it could have been a lot worse.

The UK has a number of established books including William Hill, Ladbrokes, Coral, and Victor Chandler.

So you have decided to start betting online – or maybe you just want to find a new trustworthy sportsbook – what do you need to look out for?

It is not that easy finding a reputable sportsbook – partly because the web is populated by website owners who will sing the praises of a sportsbook or casino simply because they earn revenue from signing up customers via an affiliate program.

You are keeping your money in an account online. King

I would say that US bettors are at most risk since they are generally forced to bet at offshore sportsbooks due to legality issues. Often these website owners know nothing about betting, do not hold accounts with the sportsbooks they are advertising and have not researched the companies they are involved with.

Well I am in a position to speak from some experience – I did at one time hold accounts with about sixty bookmakers in Europe, UK, Australia and offshore – the latter catering mainly to the US market READ MORE

It is a force in most white creature-based Pauper decks.

Delver of Secrets

Squadron Hawk

Lightning Bolt is THE premier burn spell in Magic.  Most people say that this is the best Enchant-Creature card ever printed.  You cast this (one card) to make the opponent waste two of his.  Its not overpowered, but very valuable to decks that play it.

The reason Delver is so powerful is because, you don’t have to really invest any resources in getting it to flip over.  If your deck is built correctly, this can often be a 3/2 flying beatstick on turn 2.  He had the spotlight on him when he was standard legal.

Ah, an old favorite of mine.  It is more of a fun and casual format, but like anything, it can be very competitive.  Let me know in the comments what your top 5 cards are and why.  Much like Delver, (which Bolt kills) this is a multi-format all-star.  This can be the difference between winning and losing a game.  If you are playing a deck with red in it in Pauper and Lightning Bolt is not in your list, you are doing things wrong.

This card is illegal in MTG Online because the set it was printed in originally was never actually released online for players to use.  It thins your deck, it attacks, it plays defense.  Put a Bonesplitter on him and go to town.  If you consider Delver to be a 3/2 flyer for one blue mana, that ratio of mana cost to power/toughness ratio is INSANE.

Here are my top five cards to play in Pauper:

Rancor

Lightning Bolt

You play Hymn on turn 2 and your opponent randomly discards two lands or a combo piece.  The reason this is such a big deal it because most of the time Enchant-Creature, or Aura spells, leave the caster at a disadvantage.  Rancor solves that problem while turning any creature into a threat.

Well, there you have it.  By the way, it almost nevers goes away.  Rancor keeps coming back for more even after the creature it was on has bit the dust.

They got everything right when they printed this card.  In order to really appreciate this card, you need to have it cast against you.

.  It ended up working out so that there was one of each color.  Perhaps he kept a risky hand, then gets hit by Hymn and has to discard the stuff that made his hand keepable.  It is currently the most played card in Pauper in the Mono Blue deck that most people say is the best deck in the format.  They can drop this guy on turn 1, then sit on their counterspells all game long.  The icing on the cake is that your opponent has to discard two cards of his at RANDOM.  Just play it in a deck with a bunch of Instants and Sorceries.  The problem is that one removal spell will two-for-one you by removing the enchantment and creature.  However, the card is legal in physical Magic and is extremely powerful.  Example:

If you have played any format of Magic over the last couple of years, you know how powerful this card is.  Those are my top 5 cards for Pauper.  And how can you argue against that?  It can be played very early on in the game helping you win tons of damage races.  Maybe you remember the deck it was in? Caw-Blade, ever heard of it?  Of course you have.  Well similar decks exist in Pauper.  Delver of Secrets is part of the reason.  In this case, only the game’s common cards are used. This sets the tempo for the entire game now.  Boom, that’s a two-for-one special.  Ponder and Preordain aid the Delver in flipping over to its more powerful side.

Hymn to Tourach

For those of you that don’t know, ‘Pauper’ is a format in the card game Magic: The Gathering where only a certain rarity of cards can be used.  For starters, it’s a card advantage bomb.  You can cast Brainstorm, then put two undesirable cards on top of your deck, then get a nice shuffle effect with a hawk.  I play a RW variation with Squadron Hawk and his friends, but the more popular version is UW mainly because of the addition of Brainstorm.  It can hit opposing creatures or players and could be cast at instant speed.  Thanks for reading!

This guy is a gem.  The ratio of its mana cost to damage output is the highest you can get off a spell without a drawback READ MORE

Well I am in a position to speak from some experience – I did at one time hold accounts with about sixty bookmakers in Europe, UK, Australia and offshore – the latter catering mainly to the US market. Sometimes this means added solidity.

What are the deposit and withdrawal options and the associated charges.

Happy betting!

“How to Choose the Right Sportsbook!”

by: Daniel B. These vary quite a bit from book to book. I also like SportingBet (www.SBSportsbook.com) who take US customers and cater for global sports.

Not all the above are critical – but help towards finding a secure book. I have had at least three online sportsbooks go broke on me – luckily my losses were kept to a few thousand dollars – that may sound a lot but it could have been a lot worse.

It is not that easy finding a reputable sportsbook – partly because the web is populated by website owners who will sing the praises of a sportsbook or casino simply because they earn revenue from signing up customers via an affiliate program. But ask yourself ; “how easy is it to get access to my money and how much does it cost?” . Often these website owners know nothing about betting, do not hold accounts with the sportsbooks they are advertising and have not researched the companies they are involved with.

The UK has a number of established books including William Hill, Ladbrokes, Coral, and Victor Chandler.

So what do you look for:

I would say that US bettors are at most risk since they are generally forced to bet at offshore sportsbooks due to legality issues. Therefore you should think of the sportsbook you are considering as a bank – a place that you intend to keep funds long term.

If you have already have an account with a sportsbook watch out for lapses in customer service and slowness of payment – these can be signs that the company could be in trouble.

The offshore books with whom I work are top grade but it is in the offshore environment that problems occasionally occur. It is, therefore, critical that those US customers put in the research before signing up.

Oddsmakers at LVSC are professional sports junkies who love what they do and would probably do it for nothing if you asked them, but they do get paid for it. If we’ve done that, we’ve done our job.” . Why the Line Changes

Individual books having players who consistently bet with certain tendencies (such as an extreme bias toward favorites or toward a certain popular team like USC)

Once a game’s power rating based pointspread is determined, the oddsmaker will make adjustments to that line after considering each team’s most recent games played and previous games played against that opponent. If an oddsmaker comes up with a preliminary line of USC -7, then an adjustment up to -7.5 or -8 would be made in response to the public’s expected USC bias.

Moving the line is the oddsmaker’s effort to balance betting action, and often times such moves can have a major impact on a bettor’s decision.

Las Vegas Sports Consultants (LVSC) is the world’s premier oddsmaking company and the most respected authority on making the lines.

For example, if the pointspread on a game is 7 and most of the money is coming in on the underdog (taking the +7), sportsbooks will then move the number down to 6 ½ to try and attract money on the favorite. Seba explained that it all starts with each oddsmaker creating a line on each game based upon their own personal approach. “We’re not trying to pick the team that covers the spread, we’re trying to make it a coin flip, a tough decision (for the bettor). People think it’s much more complicated, but it’s not.”

Divided action means the sportsbook is guaranteed a profit on the game because of the fee charged to the bettor (called juice or vig – typically $11 bet to win $10).

Once betting begins, sportsbooks can adjust the line at any time.

The purpose of these adjustments, like all line adjustments, is to more equally divide the betting action. In doing so they attempt to make more attractive the team that is getting less action. Of course there is an entire method to the madness on how the opening line is created.

A round-table discussion among the 4-5 oddsmakers involved in making the line for each sport is then conducted and a consensus line is decided upon by the Odds Director before it is released to the sportsbooks.

The opening line is the first line created by the oddsmakers, which is then sent out to sportsbooks.

“You either have a passion for it or you don’t,” Seba said.

“The main objective is that our clients get equal action on both sides,” Seba said. Stated another way, they want to create a line that half the people find appealing to bet one way while the other half find it appealing to bet the other way (known as ‘dividing the action’). In our extended interview, Seba explained that there are 4-5 oddsmakers assigned to make lines for each of the major sports (pro & college football and basketball; MLB, NHL, boxing, golf).

Experts working for the individual books having a strong opinion on the game

The last step in the line-making process for each oddsmaker is taking one final look to determine whether or not the line “feels right.” This is where common sense and past experience with how games are bet enters into the picture. Mike Seba is a Senior Oddsmaker at LVSC and has been making lines for the last six years. By necessity their approach is very research-oriented and concise, since with millions of dollars at risk there is little margin for error. Also, adjustments are made after reading each team’s local newspapers to get a sense of what the coaches & players are thinking going into the game. For example, the public might have heavy betting interest week after week on a popular college football team such as USC. By moving the line, sportsbooks can influence how the public bets on a particular game.

“The #1 thing for us is to make a line for each game that creates good two-way action. Obviously, if the line comes out a week ahead of the event (which is the case in football), there is much that could happen during the week leading up to the event that could affect the line.

Since the oddsmaker’s ultimate goal is equally dividing the betting action, public perception and betting patterns must be taken into account. Oddsmakers have to determine if any changes are necessary and send out an “adjusted line.”

Once the opening line is released by LVSC, the individual sportsbooks decide if they want to make any adjustments before offering it to the public. The power ratings are adjusted after each game a team plays. Examples of non-game factors that would require an adjustment to a team’s power rating are key player injuries and player trades. That is not the case at all – their intent is NOT to evenly split the ATS result between the teams; rather, their goal is to attract equal betting action on both sides. We do this by drawing from past experiences and applying them to current situations.

Power ratings are the oddsmaker’s value of each team and are used as a guide to calculate a “preliminary” pointspread on an upcoming game. Reasons for such adjustments include:

How the Opening Line Is Made

There is a common misconception that point spreads represent the oddsmakers’ prediction of how many points the favorite will win by. Each of these oddsmakers bring unique opinions, strengths and weaknesses to the process. Of the 4-5 oddsmakers, generally the 2 most respected opinions are weighed more heavily by the Odds Director before he decides on the final line.
